Embark on an unforgettable 17-day autumn foliage journey through South Korea and Japan, where centuries-old traditions and vibrant modern cultures intersect. Your small group adventure begins in South Korea, starting in the bustling metropolis of Seoul. From there, take a high-speed train to the charming old town of Andong. In Japan, explore the captivating cities of Fukuoka and Nagasaki on Kyushu Island. Then, board the bullet train -Shinkansen to experience the historic beauty of Hiroshima, the cultural richness of Kyoto, and the dynamic energy of Tokyo.

Note: Depending on the flight schedule of Korean Air, there is a possibility that the departure on Day 6 will be changed from Seoul to Busan. In that case, the accommodation on Day 5 will also be changed to Busan.

Itinerary

Your tour starts by departing from Auckland to Seoul on Korean Air. Arrive at night-time and transfer to your hotel by private coach. Seoul, South Korea's bustling capital, is a vibrant megacity where modern skyscrapers, cutting-edge subways and pop culture come together.

Today you will take private coach with a local guide and visit Insadong for lunch. Then you will visit the traditional house village of Ikseon-dong, Gyeongbokgung, where you will have a trial dress fitting of a hanbok (Korean traditional dress), and then visit Cheonggyecheon, and Gwangjang Market, the oldest and largest traditional market in Korea.

Today you will visit the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) by private coach with a local guide, where people have the opportunity to view North Korea.

After breakfast at hotel, your tour group will head to An-dong by KTX Express train. After enjoying a local lunch, the group will watch a Hahoe mask dance, a traditional art form. Andong is the provincial capital of Gyeongsangbuk-do and the area is known as a centre of culture and folklore.

This morning, visit Dosan Seowon by private coach with a local guide, where Lee Hwang taught Confucianism, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Korea's 9 Greatest Seowon. His portrait and the academy appear on the 1,000 won bill. After lunch at a local restaurant, take the KTX Express train to Seoul.

Depart Korea to Fukuoka in Kyushu Island by Korean Air, then visit Dazaifu Shrine before arriving at your hotel.
In Fukuoka there are more than 100 yatai, or food stalls. They offer a wide variety of food, from the famous Hakata ramen international cuisine. Best of all, once seated, you can enjoy the local atmosphere and hospitality!

Nagasaki has many stories to tell in all its vast history, culture and tourism. After a walk around Dejima and Dejima Wharf with a local , visit Peace Park and Urakami Tenshudo (Urakami Cathedral) by private coach.

Today you will take a ferry to Gunkanjima. This is the location that gained international attention as the model for the ‘Dead City ’ in the James Bond film Skyfall (2013).It is a small island that flourished as a coal mining town from 1890 to 1974.In 2015, the Island was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

Today, visit Miyajima Island with a local guide. It’s symbol, Ikutsushima Shrine - with its bold and creative design facing the sea, it is one of Japan's most iconic shrines. It was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1996. Tonight, the group can enjoy Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) at a local restaurant, which is always a popular menu among tourists.

In the morning, visit Peace Memorial Park and the Peace Memorial Museum, and in the afternoon travel  to Kyoto Station by Shinkansen train. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is dedicated to the legacy of Hiroshima as the first city in the world to be attacked by nuclear weapons at the end of World War II.

Enjoy a full day Kyoto sightseeing tour by private coach with a local guide, take a walk in and around Kiyomizu-temple, the most popular temple in Kyoto. Then enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Gion area, famous for its geisha and maiko. After visiting Golden Pavilion (Kinkakuji Temple), enjoy a Japanese kaiseki meal while watching the geisha dance.

This morning you will enjoy a Hozu River cruise, which is a beautiful and scenic 16 km long boat trip from Kameoka to Arashiyama. While cruising down the clear, calm waters of the Hozu River, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the autumn colours of the leaves.

After enjoying free time in Kyoto, travel to Tokyo by Shinkansen train in the late afternoon.

This morning, visit Asakusa, downtown Tokyo by private coach with a local guide. After visiting Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Street, stroll along Kappa Bashi Dogu Street, lined with kitchenware wholesalers. For a late lunch, enjoy authentic tempura at a local restaurant. Afterwords, visit Tokyo Sky Tree to see the great view of Tokyo.

It's time to go home today. After breakfast at hotel, transfer to Narita Airport by private coach.
