AIRLINE REVIEW

EMIRATES.

Great Southern Rail Tourism   By House of Travel

Emirates are one of the best airlines in the world and are consistently setting the standard for world travel. In their short 30 year history they’ve amassed one of the largest and most modern fleets of aircraft, brought new meaning to the word ‘service’, and even helped turn Dubai from unknown Middle Eastern town to one of the world’s most impressive cities.

The Difference

  • Want to experience the worlds biggest passenger plane? Emirates has nearly 70 of the aircraft, and another 70 on order! They are flown on all flights from Auckland via Australia (but not the direct flight), and many connecting flights from Dubai to Europe.
  • Emirates have arguably the most luxurious aircraft in world. First Class passengers have their own suites, and even access to onboard showers!
  • Emirates have one of the most extensive entertainment systems in the industry with over 2000 movies, TV shows, games, and albums.
  • All of Emirates’ A380’s feature a walk up bar from which you can order complimentary drinks and nibbles (reserved for Business and First Class flyers only).
  • In 2014 Emirates passengers went through 13 million bottles of wine costing around USD140 million dollars! About USD2 million dollars of it was New Zealand wine.

The Classes

BUSINESS CLASS. In addition to the benefits of Economy, in Business Class you’ll receive complimentary private airport transfers, in-seat power points, personal minibar, large leather seats that convert to fully flat beds, a-la-carte dining with fine wine, and access to the onboard bar with complimentary drinks and nibbles (bar on A380 aircraft only). Checked baggage allowance is one piece at 40 kilograms and one piece of carry on at 7 kilograms.
FIRST CLASS In First Class you’ll receive all the Business Class benefits above, and also have a much larger seating area with sliding doors for privacy, a vanity unit and mirror, amenity kits with Bvlgari products, and access to onboard showers. Checked luggage allowance is one piece at 50 kilograms and carry on is two pieces at 7 kilograms each.

Destinations

Dubai and most major cities Asia, Europe and Africa, as well as 15 destinations in North and South America..

The Hub

DUBAI AIRPORT. Dubai is the third busiest airport in the world with over 70 million people going through there each year. However, it also has the largest airport terminal in the world, and one of the most modern, so is a pleasure the travel through. Over 100 airlines fly to Dubai, from 260 destinations around the world. Inside the airport is a plethora of shops offering everything you could possibly want. In terminal hotels mean that you can get a room between flights without having to clear security/customs, and there’s even complimentary shower facilities. Other facilities include prayer rooms, smoking rooms and medical centres.

Security Information

If travelling on to the UK, USA or Canada from Dubai International Airport, you will be required to show that any electronic or battery powered devices on your person do in fact work. Security staff will ask you to demonstrate that the devices work by switching them on, so you must ensure you have sufficient battery power to do this. If you cannot prove it works, it will be confiscated (or you will be denied boarding). This applies to all electronic or battery powered devices such as mobile phones, laptops, e-books and tablets. It does not apply to items in your checked luggage.
